These are Links to great Peace Making Organizations and/or Information Resources. Each link is coupled with a brief discussion telling you why we like the link, and what we hope you will learn. Sometimes we link you directly to the sections of interest.
Combatants for Peace
Elik Elhanan is an Israeli soldier who has laid down his weapons of war, and is now fighting for peace with the tools of peace. Sulaiman Al Hamri, of the Fattah party, is a Palestinian combatant who has thrown down his gun, and seeks justice through the weapons of Peace. I met both men at Temple Emanuel in Orange CT, and sponsored by the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace. Their testimony is worthy of our time. Visit Combatants for Peace.
The World Council of Churches
What do the Churches say about the War? Below is part of a July 2006 letter from the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches to all their member organizations. The letter calls us to bring public attention to the need for an “urgent end to the 39 year occupation [of the Palestinian territories] that is the vortex of the regions storms”.
Who are the Peace Makers
I first thought these guys were nuts. Like “Jesus Christ, what are you doing in a War zone?” But where else should Jesus be? And then I bought one of their books “Hebron Journal”, and I was sold. These CPT folks are amazing proof that Peace Makers are the bravest of the brave. I am stunned by their poise and calm amidst calamity, and I am undone by their vision and understanding of the...
The Author of the Camp David Accords Speaks
President Jimmy Carter
Dig into his Op-Ed’s. Carter is blunt, meaty, truth filled, and passionate on the subjects he knows best. I suggest you read his Op-Ed published on March 13th 2006 entitled Colonization of Palestine Precludes Peace and the more recent Op-Ed entitled Israel's New Plan: A Land Grab. Both can be found on the Carter Center Web Site under “News and Info, Op-Ed’s”. After reading them, write your...
What Would Martin Say?
Thursday, July 13, 2006
In the American South, Martin Luther King Jr. introduced something called Militant Non-Violent Intervention. Through Militant Non-Violent Intervention, Dr. King led a movement that refocused the gathering storm of black fury into a peace movement that awakened the conscious of White America. The slogan he chose for his organization, was “To Save the Soul of America”. He was a visionary of...
Get the Facts, Read the Originals
Sometimes you gotta go to the source. The Avalon Project gets you all the documents you read about but don’t know where to find.
My personal favorites are:
#8. U.N. Resolution 242 (1967) which was passed immediately after the six day war, and U.N. Resolution & 338 (1973). These Resolutions demand that Israel withdraw from the now Israeli occupied territories known as the Gaza Strip and the
Is "I Wage Peace . Org" Anti-Semitic?
No, we are not ant-Semitic; but we recognize that many Americans confuse opposition to some pieces of Israeli foreign policy with anti-Semitism. This page serves as a reminder that many U.S. Christians oppose the American occupation of Iraq and many Israeli Jews and American Jews oppose Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. None of these well meaning individuals are anti-Semitic, and...
10 Reasons for Leaving Iraq
The American Friends (The Quakers) believe the United States Military Should leave Iraq entirely. Others believe the United States can not afford to leave. Click this link and read the discussion for each point made below.
1. The human cost of war is unacceptable.
2. The U.S. occupation is a catalyst for violence.
3. U.S. actions inflame divisions and the chance of civil war.
Take Action
There are many organizations ready for Non-Violent Volunteer Action. Keep looking until you find one you like. If you are part of a religious tradition, then look under “Find Your Churches Peace Link”. Some churches are more organized than others. Pick an active one that suits you. You may also choose any one of the organizations listed within this section II (Instructive Peace Links) or...
